Atletico Madrid Demolition well underway
On October 2, 1966, a stadium was inaugurated in Madrid that would go on to be the home of Atletico Madrid and become an emblem for the club and city.
The Estadio Vicente Calderon celebrates its last birthday this Wednesday, with it little by little being demolished.
Today, the one stand that remains is surrounded by dust and debris as the spirit that surrounded it has moved across the city to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
Los Rojiblancos leave unforgettable memories there, from tears of joy to those of sadness and heartache.
Players, fans, coaches and even journalists lived unmatchable moments in that stadium and it’s one that will be sorely missed.
Walking around the stadium you see that the demolition work is already quite advanced.
Every time you pass, there’s less of the Calderon left.
No matter what the future holds, Atletico will never forget the Calderon.
