Imagine a world where one ingredient reduced shine, smoothed fine lines and calmed redness? You know, all of those annoying skin concerns we have to deal with in our lives at one point or another. Just think, if you could not only nourish dehydrated skin but also plump and smooth your complexion, all with just a single ingredient. Well, we have good news for you. That world is our reality and that single ingredient is Squalane.
What is Squalane?
Put simply, Squalane is the hydrogenated version of Squalene, which is a naturally occurring liquid found in human sebum (oil). But just like Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid, as we age, our body produces less and less of these key ingredients that keep our skin looking young. You’re likely more familiar with Squalane than Squalene because Squalane is a more stable form and has a longer shelf life. Not to mention, it’s harvested in a much more ethical manner, and you know how we feel about that. We source our Squalane from Sugar Cane and if you’re wondering why, it’s because the ingredient is highly pure, 100% bio-based and sustainably sourced.
Tell me more.
Squalane is a key ingredient for keeping your moisture barrier in check. And having an out-of-whack moisture barrier is likely the reason why your skin is freaking out. In case you forgot, here’s a quick refresher on how the moisture barrier works: Let’s say you suffer from breakouts and have been using lots of chemical exfoliants to try and banish your blemishes. The chemical exfoliants likely cause dryness (which is fine when used as directed) but overuse can cause your skin to become tight, red and dehydrated and can even lead to more breakouts. Congrats, you just confirmed your moisture barrier is damaged. Now enter Squalane: this incredibly lightweight emollient calms and soothes as it strengthens and repairs. It does double duty to not only reverse the damage but also prevent more damage, so skin stays moisturized and protected.
Is Squalane right for me?
If you want soft, dewy skin, then yes! Squalane makes the perfect addition to almost any routine, from oily skin to mature skin and everything in between. And the best part is, it doesn’t have to be its own step. Our favorite method is combining a Squalane face oil with a moisturizer.
Which products should I use?
As we mentioned above, the sure fire way to reap the benefits of Squalane is through a face oil. If you’re nervous about using a face oil, don’t be. Glo makes an amazing Squalane-based face oil that strengthens and repairs skin, softens fine lines, increases radiance, decreases redness and works on all skin types. If you’re still hesitant to jump on the face oil train, try a Squalane-based moisturizer for similar results.
I’m in. But I don’t have two months to wait on results.
That’s okay! While the majority of benefits will come from continued use, this is one ingredient that offers some immediate results. Upon application, you should notice an instant illumination and skin should feel deeply nourished.
