Liverpool are monitoring a star LaLiga midfielder after being given an apparent green light over a €50m deal, while Real Madrid have held talks with the family over a West Ham star over an incredible €75m deal, according to Monday’s European papers.
JURGEN KLOPP MAKES MARTIN ODEGAARD TOP TARGET
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reported to have dropped his interest in Ajax star Hakim Ziyech – and will instead keep a watchful eye on Martin Odegaard ahead of a future move.
It was reported the Reds were one of a number of suitors keen on a deal for Morocco playmaker Ziyech – but Ajax’s decision to remove the €30m exit clause that existed in his contract makes a potential deal all the more difficult, as the Dutch giants prepare to play hardball in a bid to keep a player they now rate at much nearer the €75m mark.
As such, Calciomercato claims the European champions have instead made Odegaard their top target to fill a position that hasn’t really been occupied since Philippe Coutinho’s departure in January 2018.
But while it would be foolish to claim Klopp is still seeking a replacement for Coutinho (the club’s successive appearances in Champions League finals proves they’ve done just fine without him), the Reds are monitoring would-be potential future signings, especially with perennial bench man Adam Lallana likely to leave at the end of his contract next summer.
And as per the Italian outlet, Liverpool have been given serious encouragement that Real Madrid are ready to cash in on Odegaard, either in January, or, as is more likely, next summer. That’s because Real president Florentino Perez believes this is the right time to sell the Norway international and is reportedly willing to cash in to the tune of around €50m.
The report claims Odegaard’s form while on loan at Real Sociedad has caught Klopp’s attention, with the Reds continuing to monitor both as a potential future signing and in light of Real’s apparent willingness to sell him.
