Dana before and after

What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was my son. I wanted to see him grow up and have kids. The route I was going wasn’t healthy. I knew that if I continued with all my excuses, I would never achieve my goal.

How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits one day at a time. I started by not eating out anymore. That helped me save money, which helped me lose weight. It was like a ripple effect.

I stopped eating fried food and began eating leafy green veggies or dark green veggies with every meal. I was so excited about seeing the results. When I wanted to give up, I kept pushing instead.

What did your workout routine consist of?
In the beginning, all I did was walk! Yes, walking helps. You don’t have to do an intricate workout to lose weight. Eventually, I started going to the gym once a month.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 240 pounds, and my current weight is 156 pounds. Please don’t let the scale define you!

What is your height?
I’m 5’3″.

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in 2015/2016. I failed 100 times. Even now, I sometimes battle to stay consistent. It took me six months to lose 50 pounds.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I am not against weight loss surgery, but I have never had any.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I learned that I’m the only person stopping me from reaching my goals and that my mind is in charge. I had to change my way of thinking.

What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
If you want to lose weight, simply start by starting. Join a fitness group or class, like Zumba. Talk to the free trainers at your gym. Download YouTube and use the free workouts that can be found there. Just don’t give up and never compare yourself.
