Barcelona President and defender met on Tuesday afternoon
Josep Maria Bartomeu and Gerard Pique met on Tuesday with the aim of finding peace, following the Barcelona centre-back’s comments after the win at Getafe on Saturday.
Pique stated that the Barcelona board had attacked the players through the newspaper Mundo Deportivo, and this clearly did not go down well with the club’s directors nor Bartomeu, Barcelona‘s president.
It was Bartomeu who took the initiative to meet with Pique to get to the bottom of the defender’s statements and to inform him that the club was not behind the article about the players having too much power. Instead, he insisted that there is a smear campaign against the players.
Pique, meanwhile, denied that former president Joan Laporta was at the players’ dinner, with Laporta throwing his support behind Pique with a tweet on Tuesday.
“All my support to Gerard Pique in his efforts to create cohesion within the team and to defend it against the dirty game that the board of directors at Barcelona are practicing through their official bulletin [a tongue-in-cheek comment about Mundo Deportivo],” Laporta‘s tweet read.
Tot el meu suport a @3gerardpique en els seus esforos per cohesionar lequip i defensar-lo davant del joc brut que la junta directiva del #Bara practica a travs del seu butllet oficial per tapar la seva nefasta gesti.

There is an obvious gap between the dressing room and the board, although the two sides will no longer try to demonstrate this division.
