It’s FA Cup action for Southampton FC Women this weekend as they host Buckland on Sunday, following two weeks out of action.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale will be eager to see her side back in competitive action this weekend, with last week’s league fixture at home to Larkhall Athletic being postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The visit of Buckland is Saints’ first involvement in the FA Cup this season, and Spacey-Cale will be hoping their current league form can carry over into this competition.
Domestically her side are unbeaten; winning five of their six so far this season, scoring 21 and conceding just two (both of these on the opening day).
Buckland will be familiar faces to Spacey-Cale’s team, with the side having beaten them at home already this season during September.
Sunday’s matchup sees Saints take part in the competition’s second round of qualifying, with a further home tie against Poole Town on October 27th at stake in the next round should they be victorious.
Still a relatively new side, Spacey-Cale is impressed at the progress being made so far this season.
“The players are listening and learning all the time, because we’re by no means the finished article.
“The crowds at AFC Totton have been fantastic and we’re grateful for all the support. I’d love it to continue.”
