The reason Klopp rejected Real Madrid and Manchester United

Real Madrid Revealed by Robbie Fowler

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has revealed that current Reds boss Jurgen Klopp turned down the chance to manage two of the world’s top clubs, Manchester United and possibly Real Madrid.

The Liverpool manager completed four years in charge of the Merseyside club earlier in October after joining them from Borussia Dortmund, but life could have been very different with two footballing giants also in the frame to sign the German.

“I did an interview with Klopp a couple of years ago,” Fowler revealed to the Mirror. “He told me he rejected a couple of very rich clubs, one of them Manchester United, and the other probably Real Madrid, because he didn’t like how they focussed solely on business interests.

“He said he liked Liverpool because they had a balance between the money needed to reach the top and the history and identity of the club and their fans.”

Klopp‘s brand of high octane offensive football has been long admired by the Real Madrid hierarchy. He won two Bundesliga titles along with the DFB-Pokal at Dortmund , as well as losing the 2013 Champions League final to Bayern Munich.

He did though lift the Champions League trophy with Liverpool and with such an impressive list of honours and great reputation, it would be interesting to see if the door to Real Madrid does remain closed in the future.
