LaLiga Santander Loren and Moreno lead the way
Loren and Gerard Moreno have started the season in rich goalscoring form.
Both strikers have amassed six goals each in LaLiga Santander so far and they’re joint-leaders of the race for the Pichichi award for the league’s top scorers, along with Karim Benzema.
If either of them can stay at the top until the end of the season, they’ll become the first Spaniard to win the Pichichi award since Dani Guiza during the 2007/08 season.
Guiza finished with a total of 27 goals in 37 games for Real Mallorca that year.
Alongside Loren and Moreno at the top of the scoring charts for this season is Benzema, who also has six, and the Real Madrid striker joins Lionel Messi, who scored his first goal of the season on Sunday, as the main threats for the crown.
Loren has scored six goals in seven matches so far this season, averaging a goal every 85 minutes while Moreno has notched six goals in eight matches, averaging a goal every 113 minutes.
You only have to look at the top 10 scorers in LaLiga Santander to realise that the Spaniards are becoming more prominent in the goalscoring charts.
Benzema, Luis Suarez and Maxi Gomez are the only foreigners to make the top 10 so far.
You have to go back to the 2000/01 campaign for the last time that two Spanish players led the Pichichi race after eight matches.
Then, it was Alaves‘ Javi Moreno and Valencia‘s Juan Sanchez with seven goals each.
Raul was the eventual winner of the Pichichi that season on 24 goals as Moreno finished on 22 and Sanchez could only manage 12.
