Thomas Partey produced another outstanding performance in Atletico Madrid‘s 2-0 victory against Lokomotiv Moscow, and Diego Simeone only had words of praise for his player.

The Argentine claimed that the Ghanaian midfielder doesn’t receive much praise in Spain because he wasn’t signed from a big team and is a product from Atleti‘s academy.

“I could say so many things [about Thomas], but with some of them I have to shut up,” Simeone said.

“I’m very happy with Thomas.

“If he had come from an English or German team, he would be [lauded] but he’s from the academy and he’s just Thomas.

“He has been working for many years, non-stop.”

Simeone went on to break down the keys which unlocked the game in Russia and gave Atletico the win.

“We need to continue like we did against Real Mallorca and the derby,” he continued.

“Today we could create chances, but we were denied as we couldn’t [score] in the first half.

“We talked and we increased the intensity, believing in the quality of our forwards.

Joao Felix‘s goal soon arrived and the game opened up.”

The Argentine tactician also explained why he uses Joao Felix on the right wing and not in his natural position as a second forward.

“He probably feels more comfortable as a second striker,” Simeone noted.

“I think it is not easy to play there because he has to control the team and the game in many situations.

“On the wing, although he may suffer more, it gives him more possibilities to provide more chances for the strikers.

“We also did it with Diego Ribas and Arda [Turan].”
