LaLiga Defended his struggling forwards
Atletico Madrid have struggled for goals so far this season, with both Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata currently experiencing goal droughts, yet Diego Simeone believes that the pair are in a crazy spell of form at this time.
Antoine Griezmann‘s departure was always going to impact Los Colchoneros in the final third, but few envisaged the worrying lack of goals so soon into the campaign.
“I see that both of them are in a crazy spell of form,” Simeone admitted in his pre-match press conference.
“I hope that they don’t lower that pace, I see that they are working with enthusiasm.
“They want to improve, and we have peace of mind knowing that we have two great strikers.”
Atletico have also been in the headlines this week for agreeing to take their LaLiga Santander clash with Villarreal to Miami, although this is a topic Simeone refused to pay too much attention to.
“The club has given their opinion,” he added.
“We agree with everything that the club has said.
“We’re prepared to play wherever they tell us; Saudi Arabia, Bolivia or Turkey.”
Barcelona and Real Madrid‘s Clasico previously scheduled for October 26 has now officially been postponed, and Simeone believes the right decision has been made.
“The underlying issue is much more important that a football match,” he intimated.
“The issue of safety and peace of mind is far more important.
“In a case like this, a football match is secondary.”
