Belgium Courtois set to play for Belgium
Belgium boss Roberto Martinez is delighted that he has been able to welcome back Eden Hazard for the upcoming matches against San Marino and Kazakhstan, following the Real Madrid forward’s absence in the last international break.
Strangely, rumours about Hazard‘s fitness and weight continue to be discussed, and at Belgium‘s pre-match press conference, Martinez decided to come to the defence of the former Chelsea star.
“I’m happy to see Eden with the group,” Martinez said.
“He’s smiling. He’s a world-class player, who is unique, talented.
“He is also very professional and, although he has already won trophies [in his career], he is reaching the highest point of his career.
“He takes great care of himself and, in my eyes, he’s not fat.”
The Real Madrid goalkeeper suffered a stomach problem that caused him to be substituted at half-time in Los Blancos‘ 2-2 draw at home to Club Brugge in the Champions League and subsequently miss the clash against Granada just before the international break.
However, Thibaut Courtois will return to action with Belgium, as Martinez confirmed himself.
“Courtois, when he arrived, had lost two kilos,” the Belgium head coach stated.
“He’d suffered from a serious bowel problem and therefore needed time to recover.
“Now he’s back and is in top shape.”
