LaLiga Recently joined up with Spain U21s
After bursting onto the Barcelona scene this season, Ansu Fati could turn out for Spain in Euro 2020 La Roja coach Roberto Moreno has indicated.
Fati recently acquired his Spanish passport and was called up to the Under-21 squad, replacing teammate Carles Perez for the match against Montenegro on Tuesday.
“I would like Ansu Fati to be with the U21s,” Moreno said. “We had him in a pre-list.
“He has broken the system in terms of players in specific age groups. Hopefully he can help the U21s with qualifying.
“I’m not ruling out the fact that he could play at Euro 2020. It would be foolish to say that he will not go.
“There will come a time when we have to look at the different pieces and see who is in the picture. Any good player is welcome in the team.”
Another youngster making waves this season is Martin Odegaard, and when asked if he would make it into the Spain team, Moreno was clear.
“I’m sorry, but no,” Moreno said. “Our players are better. I don’t want to disrespect anyone. I think we have a great team.
“Now he [Odegaard] is playing in midfield at Real Sociedad and is reaching a high level. He is doing amazingly well.
“At the end of the day Norway are a good team and we will have to be effective to get the win.
“He is doing well, but there won’t be a plan to stop a specific player. I wouldn’t make a specific plan to stop him or anyone else.”
Spain captain Sergio Ramos could turn out for Spain in Euro 2020 and the Olympics next summer, a fact which has caused a little controversy in the country.
“I haven’t spoken to him about it,” Moreno admitted. “He is a great champion, is ambitious and motivated.
“It’s hard to stay at the level he has. It will be Luis de la Fuente who decides whether Ramos goes to the Olympics or not.”
