Spain The defender’s brother and agent spoke on the radio
Sergio Ramos’ brother and agent made an appearance on Spanish radio on Monday night and did little to dispel the rumours concerning the centre-back and the 2020 Olympic Games.
Rene Ramos was asked about the reports that the player wants to compete at Euro 2020 and also in Japan next summer as one of the three over-23 players permitted in the Olympic squad.
“Sergio hasn’t considered playing in the Olympics, but if you ask any player then who wouldn’t want to go?” the brother and agent said during an appearance on ‘El Partidazo’ on Radio Marca and Cadena Cope.
“I’d be lying if I said ‘no’.
“We’ll see, there’s a long time to go and it depends on a number of things because it’s not just about what a player wants to do.
“There’s also the calendar to consider.”
For now, Ramos is hoping Spain can seal Euro 2020 qualification on Tuesday night in Sweden even though he is suspended.
The captain has stayed with the group despite the suspension, rather than return to Real Madrid training.
“He stayed because he spoke with the coach and thought it would be right to accompany the ship,” Rene said.
“He is with the group to the death.”
Ramos won’t be making a 169th appearance this week, then, but he recently broke Iker Casillas‘ record and made his 168th appearance.
“He broke a record that was unthinkable,” his brother said.
“I know he’ll try to prolong his career as long as he is fit enough and good enough.
“I think he could go until Qatar 2022, but you need to maintain the required level.”
Finally, the agent was asked if an offer arrived from China in the summer and he dodged the question, saying “China is very far away and you can live very well in Madrid”.
