Queiroz: It was my decision for James Rodriguez to be left out the Colombia squad

Real Madrid Stated that the player didn’t ask not to come

James Rodriguez isn’t part of the current Colombia squad for their October friendlies and coach Carlos Queiroz has clarified the background to this decision.

The coach has claimed that he took the decision for the player to have some rest, and that it wasn’t a case of James requesting not to be called up.

“Some have said that James requested not to be called up, but that’s not the truth,” the coach stated at a press conference.

“I’ve never had a player ask that.

“The decision is natural, it’s my decision.

“The players who are here correspond to the objectives we have, wanting to maintain a base of 15 or 16 players.

“We can’t be upset if one player or another one isn’t here.

“We can’t just stick with the most important references of each team.

“There’s a need to look for the future.

“I hope to have the best players ready for when we’ll be competing for three points.”

For now, Colombia don’t have any competitive matches and the next competitive matches, the ones Queiroz referred to, will be the 2022 World Cup qualifiers that start in March of 2020.
