Tottenham are on a mission to beat Man Utd to a £60m target, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added a Russian attacker to his wanted list, according to Saturday’s newspapers.
SPURS MAKE MADDISON THEIR TOP TARGET
Tottenham have made James Maddison their No 1 target to replace Christian Eriksen – and could move as early as January in a bid to sign the playmaker.
Eriksen looks poised to leave north London as a free agent next summer after refusing to sign a new deal and his exit would leave Tottenham with a sizeable hole to fill.
However, both the Daily Star and the Daily Mirror claims Mauricio Pochettino has identified Maddison as the man he wants to fill that void, with the club willing to spend the £60m required to sign the England squad man.
The 22-year-old, however, is wanted by Manchester United, but with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer targeting a striker in the January window, they are expected to wait until next summer before making their move.
And that should give Tottenham the perfect opportunity to step in, with the tabloids suggesting Pochettino almost made a move for Maddison in the summer, only to shelve that interest in the hope of persuading Eriksen to commit to a new deal.
But a big play to sign him in January could win the day for Tottenham, with Brendan Rodgers recently admitting he faces a fight to keep the star at the King Power Stadium.
