Barcelona vs Real Madrid Would have to change existing fixtures
The latest chapter in the debate surrounding the upcoming Clasico is being written, with LaLiga now suggesting to the Competition Committee that the match be played on December 7, rather than October 26.
Should the Competition Committee accept LaLiga‘s proposal, the new Clasico date would affect the 16th matchday, with Barcelona currently set to host Real Mallorca while Real Madrid will welcome Espanyol to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
However, this is not an unsurmountable problem for LaLiga president Javier Tebas, who would need Mallorca and Espanyol to agree to the proposal.
LaLiga‘s idea to have the Clasico date move to another weekend as they are aware that the undeniable global impact of the match would be somewhat mitigated if it were to take place midweek, with the December 18 suggestion coming on a Wednesday and still being the most likely date at present.
Should it take place on December 7, the match would be played just before two key fixtures for the European aspirations of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
On the following Tuesday, December 9, Zinedine Zidane‘s side will travel to Belgium to play Club Brugge while Ernesto Valverde‘s charges will make their way to Milan to take on Inter on the Wednesday.
