You’d have to go back to 1974 to see the last time Manchester United were dumped from the English top flight, but given how they’re currently performing, there’s a very real chance we’ll see history repeat itself in 2020.

Following their 1-0 defeat to Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United side on Sunday, the 20-time champions of England have slumped to just two points above the relegation zone where Everton, Norwich City and Watford are currently keeping the seats warm.

The concept of United suffering relegation seems fairly alien to most that have only ever experienced the wonder that was Sir Alex Ferguson and the success that he brought.

However, after years of unrest following his departure, and as they tail off in a new direction under one of the stars that helped develop the invincible façade, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there’s a creeping feeling that maybe, just maybe, the unthinkable could happen at the “Theatre of Dreams.”
