LaLiga Portuguese forward set for scans
Valencia‘s preparations for the weekend fixture against Atletico Madrid have been totally disrupted by a twisted ankle suffered by Goncalo Guedes, with his participation in the fixture now in doubt.
During Wednesday’s training session, Guedes appeared to fall awkwardly and twist his ankle, an injury which forced him out of the session early.
The club doctors assessed the extent of the ailment after he returned to the dressing room, although the full extent of the problem won’t be known until after Thursday’s scans have taken place.
MARCA has been told by sources that the player hasn’t been totally ruled out of Saturday’s match, however the club believes that the problem is a direct result of the player being involved heavily in both of Portugal‘s matches during the international break.
Guedes hasn’t been at his best this season, with Denis Cheryshev arguably contributing more, however there remains faith that the player will recapture the form of his first year with Los Che, where he was outstanding.
Albert Celades will then have to take the decision himself as to whether or not Guedes can feature against Atleti, or whether he should be saved for the Champions League meeting with Lille in midweek.
