Unless there’s a dramatic last-minute change of heart, Andres Guardado is set to sign a two-year extension at Real Betis.
This new deal will see his stay at the Estadio Benito Villamarin run until June 30, 2022, meaning that should the deal be seen out, the Mexican will have spent five seasons at the club by the time it reaches its end.
“I’ve always expressed my desire to continue,” Guardado told Radio MARCA Sevilla on Wednesday, before they broke the news on Thursday morning.
“I’m very grateful to this club. I’m happy here and I feel useful. As long as that doesn’t change I’ll stay.
“We’re very close to confirming the extension, so hopefully we will. The contract is a formality.”
Guardado, now 33, will be aiming to play in his fifth World Cup with Mexico in 2022.
