Spain Brazilian is open to representing La Roja
Valencia centre-back Gabriel Paulista is one of the best defenders in LaLiga Santander, yet Brazil‘s reluctance to call him up has led the 28-year-old to state his willingness to play for Spain.
Gabriel has not only formed an excellent partnership with Ezequiel Garay at Valencia but he has become an integral player for Los Che in both LaLiga Santander and the Champions League.
Strangely, Gabriel has never made an appearance for the Brazilian national team and, although his preference is to still represent the Selecao, he is open to playing for Spain.
“If I don’t get any opportunities from Brazil, I’d open the door to playing for the Spanish national team,” Gabriel told Esporte Interativo.
“If Spain gives me that opportunity, I’d accept it with a lot of respect.
“I will continue to be Brazilian; if I take that decision [to represent Spain], everyone knows why.
“I am playing really well and there’s not been a call from Brazil.
“If the opportunity arises to play at the next Euros [for Spain], I will accept it.”
