Paulo Fonseca says he “didn’t like” the referee’s attitude throughout Roma’s 1-1 draw with Cagliari on Sunday.
Nikola Kalinic had a last-minute winner disallowed by Davide Massa, but his conduct caused confusion at the Olimpico as a furious Fonseca claimed the official had told Cagliari’s players there was no foul.
“The referee spoke to the Cagliari players and said there wasn’t a foul,” the Coach said after the game.
“Then he changed his decision – so did he consult VAR or not? The referee signalled with his hand that there wasn’t a foul.
“I didn’t like the referee’s attitude throughout the game. I could speak about the non-existent foul given against Diawara, or the incident for Cagliari’s penalty, and then the goal at the end by Kalinic.
“I accept his decision to send me off, I deserved that. But on the goal it seems strange to me that the referee would tell the Cagliari players there wasn’t a foul. I don’t know why he changed his mind.
“The guys played well, they created a lot of chances and I think we deserved more than a draw.
“What was lacking today was that second goal. We missed a few good openings, it’s hard to say we shouldn’t have done better with them.”
