Barcelona vs Eibar Two points behind leaders Real Madrid
Barcelona take on Eibar at Ipurua with a clear objective: win and go top of LaLiga Santander. They’ve turned things around of late and have strung together three straight wins, which has seen them settle in towards the top of the table.
But the first thing on Ernesto Valverde‘s mind will be that he has to travel to Eibar without two important players as both Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembele are out through suspension.
The Catalans struggled to start the season, picking up just four points in their opening three games. Things have gone well since, though, aside from their shock defeat at Granada in matchday five, winning against Villarreal, Getafe and Sevilla.
Barcelona were eighth in round five with seven points, four shy of both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. However, their upturn has seen them close the gap and now, playing ahead of Los Blancos‘ 21:00 CEST kick-off, they can go top on a temporary basis at least.
Jordi Alba is ready to start, while Samuel Umtiti and Junior Firpo could both feature at some point.
But the Basque side have their own aspirations and they’ll be looking to inflict another upset on the Azulgrana.
The battle at Ipurua will decide who leads Spain’s top tier for Saturday afternoon.
