LaLiga President and board set to hold a meeting
David Gallego‘s future at Espanyol is far from certain following his team’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Real Mallorca on Sunday.
The Catalan side’s president Chen Yansheng will hold a meeting from China with the board to discuss the club’s current situation.
Meanwhile, Pablo Machin has emerged as the main contender to take on Espanyol‘s coaching role, should Gallego be dismissed.
The 47-year-old coach had a two-game time limit to bounce back from a slow start in the season, but a home defeat by Real Valladolid was followed by another blow at Mallorca and left them second bottom in the LaLiga Santander table.
Although Espanyol prevailed against CSKA Moscow midweek in the Europa League and the players embraced their coach when celebrating their goals, Gallego‘s position is not secure and his future will be decided in the coming hours.
The Catalans’ next game is on October 20 against Villarreal and they will opt to take advantage of the international break to either give an opportunity to Gallego to work or give space to their new coach to adapt to the team.
