Serie A A tough start in Italy
Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt is still settling in at his new club and he knows that he has improving to do.
The Dutchman has had a tough start to life in Italy, but their game against Atletico Madrid served as something of a wake-up call for him.
“I’m more accustomed now, but after the match against Atletico I told myself ‘this isn’t the player I am’,” he told FOX Sports.
“I started playing with more confidence and since then I’ve improved.”
De Ligt joined in a big-money move this summer and while he admits that the price is something that adds to his need to perform, he says that it’s not something he thinks about.
“Of course it was a big price and I didn’t want to make mistakes,” he said.
“But there’s no time for thinking like that.
“I’ve never played with that thought.”
De Ligt sees things differently in Italy, and knows the margin for error is smaller than before.
“The line for criticism is very fine if you do something wrong,” he said.
“Unfortunately that’s the life of a defender. I try to learn from my mistakes.”
