DAversa: Parma didnt do enough

Roberto D’Aversa was deeply disappointed with Parma after their 1-0 defeat to SPAL. “We didn’t do enough to bring home a point.”

Andrea Petagna got the only goal, while Gabriel Strefezza was sent off on 70 minutes, but 10-man SPAL were barely ever at risk.

“SPAL had far more determination and desire to get the result, they put more into it and we frankly didn’t do enough to bring home a point,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had the wrong attitude from the start, there is nothing positive to take from this other than the fact it only ended 1-0. Even when playing against 10 men, we did precious little to earn a result.

“Games played that badly are rare, you get two or three per season, so we’ll try to find out the reasons why this happened now.

“Our DNA is to fight for every ball, then there is the quality of some who can create something going forward, but the determination has to be the bedrock.

“We had been doing well until now, but this ugly defeat shows us what happens if we rest on our laurels and don’t focus on the basics.”

Parma have a famously poor record against SPAL, not beating them since a Serie C encounter over 30 years ago.

“Each game is completely different, so I don’t think there’s much point comparing this to last season. The disappointing thing is that we had the opportunity to climb up the table and wasted it, but must keep our eyes on the prize of Serie A safety.”
