Real Madrid Proving worth to Zidane through running
There is a suspicion at Real Madrid, that Zinedine Zidane is initially preferring to give chances to those who have been successful for him in his first term, and nobody epitomises being a Zidane player more than Casemiro, with the Brazilian yet again proving his worth through running.
Pep Guardiola had Sergio Busquets, whilst Zidane‘s first move as coach of the senior team in Madrid was to properly integrate Casemiro into the team after seeing at close quarters just how effective he could be with Castilla.
Of all of Real Madrid‘s matches across all competitions this season, the former Porto midfielder has played in 96 percent of the minutes.
His performance levels have been incredibly high and throughout those matches, he has accrued over 22,000 kilometres of running.
It’s not always a fair thing to throw at a coach who is trying to win matches during a difficult period, but Zidane is reliant on Casemiro.
He was in his first spell in charge and he will be until this second spell comes to an end, whenever that may be.
Only Toni Kroos has played more minutes than Casemiro this season, although that is more due to the lack of options available to deputise for him after Zidane failed to secure serious midfield reinforcements during the summer transfer window.
His late header rescued Los Blancos from a disaster against Club Brugge, and he has scored more goals that Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have managed, even though they play further up the pitch than he does.
Despite having received hardly any rest, Casemiro will travel to Singapore to face Senegal with Brazil during the upcoming international break, and even then he will be right back into the Real Madrid team.
