Barcelona Winger is prioritising football over money
Barcelona have quickly moved to renew the contract of Carles Perez after his first-team emergence this season, yet the Catalan believes that the important thing is for him to be at Barcelona, rather than how much money he makes.
Perez has ably helped Ernesto Valverde through a period where Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were both injured, while Ousmane Dembele has also been unavailable.
“I want to succeed here, being here is the most important thing, not to earn 1.5 million euros as a 16-year-old,” Perez explained to ‘A Diario de Radio Marca’.
“I know how difficult it is to do what I’m doing, and there are people who are more guided by money.
“I respect everyone’s decisions, but money will always arrive.”
When quizzed on his relationship with Lionel Messi, Perez made clear that the Argentine has been a fantastic influence on him.
“He is a person who helps the dressing room a lot,” he added.
“He always gives you advice, to both me and Ansu [Fati], the ones who just came up. We knew he would help us.
“He told us that if we didn’t have the quality to be in the position we were in, then we wouldn’t be there.”
The highlight of his short career with the Barcelona senior team undoubtedly comes with his first start against Real Betis.
“My best moment was the day I started against Betis,” he intimated.
“I felt a little pressure, because it was the Camp Nou and it was my dream [to play there].
“It was the happiest day of my life because I also scored a goal.”
