Dimitar Berbatov has questioned whether Christian Eriksen is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos have the Danish midfielder on their radar and are planning to make a move for him in the January transfer window.

Real Madrid have a brilliant team and Eriksen needs to know that going there would represent a massive challenge,” Berbatov told Betfair.

“They’ve got [Toni] Kroos, [Luka] Modric, Isco, [Eden] Hazard… all of them are tried-and-tested players, world class midfielders.

“And yes, it’s true that some of them have been there for a while and are starting to get old but they still have a very strong side.

“So Eriksen will need to ask himself if he’s ready to fight for his place because you can’t just go to Real Madrid and expect to play straight away.

“Even Hazard has had difficulties at the start with Real Madrid. Any player can go through the same there.

“Sometimes you need to leave your comfort zone and if that’s where Eriksen is at right now, he won’t need to push himself to achieve anything, if that’s the case then that’s a problem.”

Berbatov, who is a former Tottenham player, also spoke about Gareth Bale‘s situation at Real Madrid amid reports that the Welshman is unhappy in Spain.

Gareth Bale has apparently said that he wants to leave Real Madrid,” Berbatov said.

“It reminds me of a soap opera that has been on for so long, what episode are we on now?

“I want to leave, I want to stay, we don’t want you, we want you, we love you, we will play you and s*** like that.

“In the end he is probably going to leave at some point, and I would love to see him back in England at Manchester United or Spurs if they could afford him.

“But it’s not always good to go back to the place where you were before because you aren’t going to be as good as you were before, there is some kind of curse with that.

Manchester United can benefit form his movement, his speed and he knows the Premier League so I think that would be a good move if it happens.”
