With several of Real Sociedad‘s players away on international duty, Ander Barrenetxea has been one of the bright sparks in La Real‘s friendlies.

The 17-year-old winger has featured in both of Real Sociedad‘s friendlies during the two international breaks this season, most recently against Osasuna on Thursday.

However, Barrenetxea has been given very few opportunities in competitive matches, making just two appearances in LaLiga Santander this season.

The summer signings of Alex Isak and Portu, as well as the arrival of Martin Odegaard on loan, have limited the teenager’s chances of breaking into the first team, while Mikel Oyarzabal‘s excellent performances mean he can’t be dropped.

Both Barrenetxea and fellow academy player Aihen Munoz made their senior debuts last season, but neither have made much progress in the first team during this campaign.

Munoz has also proved his qualities in recent friendlies but, like Barrenetxea, he’s seen his playing time reduced by the arrival of a new signing, Nacho Monreal in Munoz‘s case.
