Atletico Madrids trident have delivered Simeones worst drought

Atletico Madrid They can’t score

There was so much talk about the quality Atletico Madrid‘s attack would boast this season, with some people even suggesting that losing Antoine Griezmann might prove to be a positive and free up Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata to score more while being aided by Joao Felix.

But with just seven LaLiga Santander goals so far this season, Atletico are enduing their worst attacking season since Diego Simeone took charge.

Even beyond the goals, there’s a bigger problem in that chances aren’t being created.

Real Valladolid were even able to limit their chances and it took until the 82nd minute for Angel Correa to really trouble when he hit the post.

It seems inexplicable with players like Joao Felix, Costa and Morata that a team can have fewer than 40 shots on goal at this point of the season.

Last term they had 79 by now, while in 2016/17 they had 134.

One of the problems is the understanding between Costa and Morata, which showed itself to be poor at Real Valladolid.
