Real Madrid A Mallorca native
Marco Asensio will have to watch Real Madrid visit his native Mallorca on TV on Saturday.
The Spaniard grew up on the island and joined Real Mallorca at the age of ten before leaving for Los Blancos eight years later.
Due to his long-term knee injury, Asensio hasn’t played since July and faces another few months of recovery before he can return to action.
Asensio broke into the Mallorca first team for the first time in 2013, making his debut at the age of 17.
By 2014, he was attracting the interest of Barcelona, but it was Real Madrid who secured his signature.
During his final season as a Mallorca player, Asensio earnt 16,000 euros in the 36 matches that he played, scoring six goals.
He lived with his brother and father, who used to get up early to work in a supermarket. He listened to reggaeton and would do everything a person of his age would such as go to the cinema and the beach.
When Mallorca were promoted to LaLiga Santander at the end of last season, Asensio would’ve been looking forward to his return home.
Now, due to his absence with injury, he’ll come back to Palma on holiday rather on business.
